An Abundance of Aquilegias

We’ve well and truly reached spring now, and what a wait it has been. The trees are largely in leaf (although the occasional tree is hanging behind the crowd) and the sun has been shining.

The garden is flourishing in the warmer, more consistent weather, and the brash tulips have faded back to let the prettier, subtler, cottage garden flowers lead the show.

Making a particularly impressive debut this year are a wide variety of dangling, dancing aquilegias. Last year I collected seeds from wherever I could, scattering them haphazardly through the border, and they really are going for it.

Aside from the fact there are very few bees around, it really is quite idyllic!
